Bishop had discussed the possibility of an attack on a German aerodrome at dawn with British Ace, Albert Ball. Later with the news of Ball’s appearance, Bishop decided to attempt it on his own. He took off at 4 a.m. and headed over the German lines. Attacking at first light, he fired his first shots at aircraft stationed in front of the tent hangars at Estourmel Aerodrome, home of Jasta 5. He shot down an Albatross that was taking off. Soon he shot down a second Albatross after a short scrap over the same field, then headed home. A great solo effort.
